SonicFlood

Just got in from a concert tonight. Our church "went out on a limb" - and brought in SonicFlood for a concert. For the size of our town, they are by far the "biggest group" ever brought in. The venue seats about 1000 - and I think we needed about 800 to break even - and I think we were pretty close. I was really impressed by the guys in the band. They had missed their flights the night before - a few of them slept on the floor at Logan airport - but you never would have known it. From the sound-check in the afternoon to the autograph signing after, they maintained a great spirit. The sound was awesome - they spent a lot of time in the afternoon "tweaking" everything so it was "just right". Okay - the few "older people" there might have found it a little loud? I noticed some retirees there from our church - I'll have to ask them on Sunday. My girls loved it of course. They've become regular "mosh-pit" girls! Here's a few pictures - one from the afternoon and a few from tonight. I also uploaded a short video clip I took during the afternoon sound checking.

More Mt. A pictures

I thought I'd post a few more pictures of the Mt. A campus from today.

1) Convocation Hall
2) Owens Art Gallery
3) Bennett House (My residence 1st year - very "Animal House"-like)
4) Thornton House (My residence 2-4th year - a more refined "Animal House")
5) Middle of campus - in front of the Fine Arts building - facing the chapel & Admin buildings.

Oh Ye of Little Faith

I went up to Sackville today for Mt. A's homecoming came against St. F X. I'll be the first to admit it - my hopes were not high. X beat Acadia last week - who had already beat Mt. A in week one. So... maybe it was the home field... the "well lubricated" friendly home-team crowd... or perhaps it was the streaker who ran the entire length of the field just before half-time (picture enclosed - I'm posting only the "PG" version). But in the end, Mt. A won 25-13. Don't purchase your play-off tickets yet, but they actually looked pretty good. I think Mt. A took 6 facemask penalties - over 200 yrds in penalties in total - way more than X's total offense. If they could have played a little more disciplined, the score would have been pretty lopsided.

I also took a few pics of the campus - pretty much the same - but some renovation work done in the last 20 years. The "Swan Pond" is still as pretty as ever.

More Atlanta Pictures

A few more pictures from our trip to Atlanta - some shopping/eating - MLK museum - Fernbank Museum - a hike up Stone Mountain with our friends the Lipseys - an all-day concert at the Georgia Horse Park (where they held the Olympic equestrian events). It was all great fun.

A Few More Pics

A couple more pictures from today.

Summer 07 - Atlanta (Again?)

Yes.. for some reason, the state of Georgia has allowed me to return again. This time, mixing a little business and pleasure together. I was able to visit Mom & Dad's first house in Greenville, SC (picture below). I also visited Reedy River Falls park in the heart of downtown Greenville. It's a wonderful park with manicured grounds/gardens. I just loved my day there - very memorable. Today we visited the CNN broadcast center and the new "World of Coke". Here's some pictures that kind of encapsulate things so far.

More Camp pics

A few More pictures

Family Camp - Aug/07

Just back from a week of "Family Camp" at Malagash, N.S. The weather/food/beach was all great. We'd arranged to go there with Garth & Andrea Slysz and Craig & Kim Wilmot. I'd gone to school with Craig & Garth 20+ years ago - so we decided to have a bit of a reunion. It was great fun - and the girls loved it too. We better not wait 20 years again for the next time - otherwise some of us might be "in a home". Here's some pictures.

My last full day here in Atlanta...

Could you get any better hosts than Alan & Liz? I doubt it. I've had such fun.. so many memories.

Using Alan's GPS I drove around a little today - and ended up at the High Museum. The sculptures there are especially impressive.

In the evening the three of us went to see the Thrashers play the Sabres. It was an exciting game - and went to a shoot-out. Sadly (since I guess I should cheer for the home team), the Sabres prevailed. Great seats too!

Tomorrow.. there's an early flight back home. But... I'll certainly feel like I've left a piece of me here. As the song says, "Georgia on my mind".
